It would seem that due to the Covid pandemic there has been a revival in in many handicrafts and in particular knitting and crocheting. Alongside that revival is the strengthening of the knit and natter clubs.

Knit and natter clubs are great, they bring together people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. All those that attend usually have their own projects and items they are working on, however very often the group also works on joint projects for charity or display. Here in Newtown our group recently raised £800 for Cancer at a craft market, they have also knitted numerus items for prem baby units and also nearly 2000 ‘Fish and Chip’ jumpers since the Christmas lockdown in 2020 which have been sent out to Kenya and Afghanistan. https://www.facebook.com/buntingbonanza/posts/fish-chip-baby-jumpers-and-hats-knitting-patternmany-babies-in-africa-are-sent-h/754891007989300/

There is a real community feel to the group in Newtown. https://www.facebook.com/groups/618706768276571

They raise funds for local charities as well as further afield. The positivity of ‘connection’ is also important, for some it maybe the only contact they have outside their homes. They learn from each other and help when they get stuck on patterns, but equally they support each other when times are a bit tough and don’t judge.

a quote from a member of the Newtown group when asked what made their group special "Laughter, tea, biscuits and cake, results in lots of knitting & crochet to raise charity funds , and of course special friendships"
